Amherst is the first town in MA to approve reparations fund to descendants of slavery


The tragic death of George Floyd ignited calls for racial justice last year just as the pandemic revealed harsh disparities in health care and economic security. Now the discussion of reparations, the concept of acknowledging and compensating African Americans for slavery, is picking up steam. Amherst is now the first community in the state to create what they call a Reparations Stabilization Fund.
