High School football preview – Lowell Sun

Friday Night Lights have returned!

A traditional high school football season is now underway, including 14 local games tonight. On Saturday, Danvers caps opening weekend travelling to Tewksbury for an 11:30 matinee, at its beautiful new facility at Doucette Stadium.

Tewksbury, which has won eight MVC Division 2 titles in the past 10 years, lost a lot of talent off the Fall-2 season, but return a veteran offensive line which make them dangerous once again. League rivals, Billerica, Chelmsford and Dracut should be vastly improved. The Middies are one of two local teams with new coaches as Jermaine McKenzie takes over, as does Bruce Rich, Jr., over at Westford Academy.

In MVC D1, Lowell is coming off a terrific year led by then first-year head coach Robert Pike and will look to talented running back Aaron Morris to lead the way.

The Mid-Wach League is always competition and look for Littleton, Tyngsboro to contend, while Groton-Dunstable and North Middlesex continue to grow.

In the CAC, Lowell Catholic will have one of the better players around with QB Jakob Flores, while Shawsheen and Gr. Lowell should be in the mix of things.

Finally in the Middlesex League, Wilmington is coming off a 4-2 season competing in the Freedom Division and return almost the entire starting line-up and are expecting bigger things this fall.
