Shawsheen’s Woodward dedicates game to late coach – Lowell Sun

Shawsheen Tech 7, Greater Lawrence 0

Junior Joe Woodward netted a hat trick as the Shawsheen Tech boys soccer team took down Greater Lawrence, 7-0.

A two-sport athlete, Woodward dedicated the game to his late wrestling coach Mark Donovan, who passed away Sunday following a courageous battle with cancer.

“When I took Joe out with 10 minutes to play, I gave him a big hug and told him Coach Donovan would be so proud of him,” said Shawsheen soccer coach Tom Severo. “He wanted to show Dunnie how much he meant to him.”

Junior Noah Rizzo added two goals and an assist. Also scoring for Shawsheen were sophomore Brian Duhamel, and junior Tyler Francois. Senior Jeremy Perez had two assists, as did sophomore Nick Gerasimov. and junior Jonathan MacEachern. Senior goalkeeper Tyler Kopacz had an eventful day, earning his second consecutive shutout, while also collecting an assist on Rizzo’s second goal, booting the ball down the field to the streaking forward.


Field Hockey

Tyngsboro 3, Littleton 2

Katie Guilmette scored a pair of goals including the game-winner and added an assist, as the Tyngsboro field hockey team topped Littleton, 3-2.

Holding a 2-1 lead at halftime, Tyngsboro took control in the fourth quarter. Natalia Correia (2 assists) set up Guilmette with the eventual game-winner. Littleton’s Amanda Yurkoski cut the deficit to 3-2 with an unassisted tally, but that’s as close as they would get.

Guilmette opened the scoring off a first quarter feed from Correia. Littleton’s Katherine Anjoorian potted the equalizer, assisted by Hannah Cochran. Camryn Times put Tyngsboro ahead to stay off a Guilmette gimmie. Tyngsboro goalie Izzy Shaffer made nine saves. She was backed by the stellar play of Emma Hogan, Kendall Times and Katerina Panagakis. Brittany Iverson also played well for Littleton.

Wilmington 1, Woburn 0

Rita Roche netted the lone goal, as the Wilmington defeated Woburn, 1-0.
