Westford Junior Ghosts capture state title

The Westford U12 Junior Ghosts had a highly successful season in the New Balance Select Baseball League, earning their first-ever title as Division 2 Champions for the state of Massachusetts.

The U12 Westford boys beat out 24 other teams from around the state.

The U12 Ghosts had an overall record of 17-1 in the league this season, and put together a 6-0 record in the playoffs. Westford beat the Northeast Longhorns in the championship game, 2-1.

The game was tied at 1-1 entering the bottom of the sixth, before Kevin Fitzgerald hit a walk-off single to right with the bases loaded to earn the victory.

To add to their accomplishments, the Junior Ghosts also had a regular season win over the eventual New Hampshire state champion for Division 2, and beat the Mass. Division 1A state champion in the regional tournament to solidify them as one of the best teams in all of New England.

The Junior Ghost program was created in Westford eight years ago by Terry Eliasen in an effort to keep talented baseball players playing baseball competitively in town, rather than seeking AAU programs around the area.

The Westford Junior Ghosts program also claimed a U12 championship in 2019 and another U9 championship last year.

The program now boasts five teams across the U9, U10, U11, U12 and U14 age groups.
