AMHERST, Mass. –
Nate Bromage (Three Rivers, Mass.) and Chris Chambers (Westfield, Mass.) have each signed National Letters of Intent to attend the University of Massachusetts announced men’s swimming head coach Russ Yarworth.
The two products of Western Massachusetts committed to UMass after posting outstanding prep careers.
A freestyle and butterfly sprinter, Bromage finished second in the 100-yard butterfly and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle at the Division II Massachusetts State Championship meet last season. Prior to the state meet, he captured the Western Massachusetts High School Sectional titles in both events.
In 2003, Bromage finished second at the sectional meet in the 50-yard freestyle and in the 100-yard butterfly en route to earning Palmer High School team MVP honors.
“Nate comes to us with incredible potential. He has excellent character and will represent the University well because this is his home region.” said Yarworth who enters his 26th season at the helm of the men’s swimming
program.
Chambers, a freestyle sprinter from Westfield High School, finished second in the 50-yard freestyle and third in the 100-yard freestyle at the Western Massachusetts High School Sectional meet in 2004. He also finished third in the 50-yard free and second in the 100-yard free at the Division I Massachusetts State Championships meet.
“Chris is a big, strong, raw, talented student-athlete,” said Yarworth. “He has a solid high school and YMCA background, an enthusiastic attitude, and is another Western Massachusetts swimmer who will compete for his home state school.”
Both UMass swimming and diving teams will break for two-weeks before competing in the Nutmeg Invitational hosted by Yale on Dec. 4-5 at the RJ Kiphuth Exhibition Pool.
