Gilles Rene “Gill” Lapointe Sr, 74, of Indian Orchard, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 7, 2023. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on April 1, 1949, Gill was the son of the late Emile and Annette (Carroll) Lapointe.
Gill is survived by his daughter Carleen Mullin & her husband Charles (Chad), his son Gilles Lapointe Jr & his wife Jeannine, and his 5 grandchildren Danielle, Emily, Christopher, Jillian & Melinda; all of Ludlow. He also leaves his siblings Mariette Leitl, Romeo & Claude Lapointe. In addition to his parents, Gill was predeceased by his brother Robert.
Gill proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was honored with the Bronze Medal for his service. After the war he transferred to the U.S. Air Force where he served until his retirement. Alongside his military career, Gill was a mechanical designer of tools, a truck driver and then drove for the City of Springfield DPW for 20 years.
Gill had a love of animals and specifically loved his dog Gizmo. He enjoyed “tinkering” with everything, woodworking, playing bingo, making jokes, making people laugh and most importantly bragging about his grandchildren.
Visiting hours for Gill will be Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 8:30-9:00 AM at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St. Ludlow, MA. followed by funeral service at 9:00 AM. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, MA at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to www.dav.org .
