Longmeadow re-asserted itself as the top program in Western Massachusetts with wins over Pope Francis and Minnechaug last week to claim the No. 1 spot in this week’s rankings.
The Lancers came into the week following a loss to Franklin, but bounced back with a win, 9-7, over Pope Francis on the road and followed that performance up with a dominant win, 18-6, against Minnechaug at home.
The victory over the Falcons avenged Longmeadow’s loss to Minnechaug on the road earlier this spring.
The Lancers’ schedule doesn’t get any easier moving forward, with their next game coming against BC High at home on Thursday and then another matchup against Pope Francis May 13.
With its loss to Longmeadow last week, the Cardinals slide down to the No. 2 spot. The loss was Pope Francis’ first of the season. The program still has impressive wins against Minnechaug, Barnstable, Wahconah and Westfield on its resume. The program’s remaining regular season games are highlighted by matchups against Westfield on May 11, Longmeadow on May 13 and Minnechaug on May 16.
The Falcons also slid down a spot last week to No. 3. The team’s loss against Longmeadow was its most lop-sided of the season, its only other defeat coming at the hands of Pope Francis.
The program will close out its regular season with tough matchups against Winchester, Pope Francis and Wachusett.
