Massachusetts community named one of the most beautiful small towns in America – Boston Agent Magazine

Stockbridge, Massachusetts, has been named one of the most beautiful small towns in America by Architectural Digest.

The publication developed its 55 Most Beautiful Small Towns in America list using certain attributes, like easy access to nature, a community’s historic or design districts and appealing topography.

The publication said Stockbridge made the list, hitting three of its key “indicators of beauty: architecture, nature and culture.”

Located in the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts, Stockbridge is a two-hour and 10-minute drive from Boston. The small town with a population of just under 2,000 is most notably known as home to the Norman Rockwell Museum and a destination for year-round cultural events, including Jacob’s Pillows international dance festival, as well as Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, which it shares with neighboring Lenox.

Architectural Digest noted Stockbridge’s familiarity, as it’s been the subject of many Norman Rockwell paintings. Calling it “quintessential small-town America at its peak,” highlights also include the Housatonic River, which runs through downtown, and Stockbridge’s Main Street shops and galleries.
