NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — Mayor Jon Mitchell was joined by Environmental Protection Agency New England Regional Administrator David Cash and other elected officials Friday to celebrate the award of 14 zero emission school buses to the city.

Under President Joe Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law the city received a rebate of more than $5.5 million for the buses and charging infrastructure.

“We are proud today to continue that record of early adoption of these important technologies with the planned acquisition of electric school buses and are grateful for the federal support from the EPA and our congressional delegation, that has made this possible,” Mitchell said.

Five communities in Massachusetts received nearly $30 million in rebates from the infrastructure law to convert to zero-emission buses.
