Barbara Jennings Obituary (1943 – 2023) – Pittsfield, MA

Barbara Ann (Sheehan) Jennings 80, of Pittsfield died Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Melbourne Place, Pittsfield. She was born in North Adams on January 31, 1943 a daughter of the late Richard and Elizabeth (DeSanty) Sheehan.

Barbara graduated from St. Joseph High School in North Adams and then graduated from Hudson Valley Community College with a degree in accounting. She was employed at the former Strong Hewitt Company in Clarksburg in the billing department and at the Sprague Electric Company as a senior clerk in the cost accounting department,

After her marriage to James Jennings on May 3, 1969 she moved to Clifton Park, New York and was employed for Dr. Brad Elliott. She was a member of the DAV and Elks Lodge both in Clifton Park. Barbara’s husband James Jennings died February 1, 2001.

Barbara was quite the character and any interaction with her was a whirlwind. Her wit was sharp as a tack and she was full of sass. If you saw her about town she would undoubtedly be wearing her Mink and a treasure trove of diamonds and precious metals, proudly proclaiming “Jimmy wanted me to have them” and my goodness did Jimmy want her to have everything.

Barbara was deeply troubled by the world and its many horrors but took the opportunity to laugh any chance she could. Her mother once said to her “Barbara you are always laughing “to which she replied “if I wasn’t laughing I’d be crying”. She had compassion and was charitable with the disabled, children, and animals but had limited patience with most adults.

It is her family’s greatest wish that Barbara is now at peace and has been reunited with Jimmy who undoubtedly presented her with the universe’s largest flawless diamond upon meeting again.

Survivors include her brother Richard M. Sheehan (Bonnie) of North Adams, sister-in-law Judith Sheehan of Adams, nephews Ryan Sheehan (Amanda), Jon Sheehan, grandniece Ellie Sheehan and grandnephews Blake and Bentley Sheehan.

She was predeceased by a brother James Sheehan and nephew Thomas Sheehan.

Graveside services will take place June 5, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the family plot in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams, MA.
