Don’t forget to pack a sweatshirt for whatever beachside location you plan on traveling to Memorial Day.
Massachusetts residents are in for sunny, dry and hot weather Saturday before a significant cooldown the Monday of Memorial Day, according to meteorologists.
A sunny and “very warm” afternoon Sunday is in store for the region away from the southern coast of the state, with temperatures expected to climb to as high as the upper 80s throughout Massachusetts, according to the National Weather Service.
There will be a brief cooldown Monday and Tuesday, especially across Eastern Massachusetts, as a backdoor cold front sweeps across southern New England, causing high temperatures to plummet to the lower to middle 60s closer to the coast and the 70s and warmer further west, the Weather Service said.
“Summer lovers rejoice, we have the makings of another gorgeous day here in southern New England! Highs will range from the 70s along the south coast to near 90 in the Merrimack River Valley,” the Weather Service wrote in a tweet Sunday morning. “We hope you have the chance to get outside and enjoy this beautiful day!”
High temperatures Sunday were expected to climb to 72 degrees in Hyannis on Cape Cod, 88 degrees in Boston, 87 degrees in Worcester and 88 degrees in Springfield, according to the Weather Service.
On Monday, highs are expected to reach only 65 degrees in Hyannis, 64 degrees in Boston, 73 degrees in Worcester and 80 degrees in Springfield, the Weather Service said.
After Tuesday, temperatures should trend back to warmer than normal, with 90-degree heat possible late next week. Another cold front is forecast Friday, which may bring the next best chance for showers or thunderstorms, according to the Weather Service. However, the forecast is subject to significant change more than 72 hours out.
