Springfield jet skier missing after Connecticut River crash in Northampton

Police are searching for a jet skiier after a boat collision was reported around 7 p.m. on the Connecticut River in Northampton on Sunday, according to Massachusetts State Police Spokesperson Dave Procopio.

The missing person is a 51-year old male from Springfield, Laurie Loisel of the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office told MassLive.

The two boaters, a woman from Agawam and a man from Chicopee, were transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, according to Loisel. The man was the driver of the boat.

Police searched for the jet-ski driver until just before midnight on Sunday and began again on Monday using side-scan sonar equipment to detect anomalies or objects below the water’s surface, Procopio said.

The Route 5 Easthampton boat ramp is closed as police continue their search, according to Procopio.

The Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Environmental Police, and local public safety agencies are working together to search for the man.

The incident is still under investigation.
