James Kilts Obituary (1948 – 2023) – Amsterdam, NY – The Berkshire Eagle

James C. (“Jim”) Kilts, of Milton, Georgia, died at Northside Hospital on May 23, 2023, five days before his seventy-fifth birthday. Jim was born on May 28, 1948, in Amsterdam, New York to the late Albert and Shirley Nellis Kilts.

Jim attended Fort Plain Central Schools and graduated from State University of New York at Brockport. He married the former Frances Daly on August 16, 1969, and the couple was married for nearly 54 years. He enjoyed a long career in the insurance industry, beginning with the Utica National Insurance Company, followed by 28 years with Berkshire Life Insurance Company in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, where he rose to the position of an officer of the company. In 2000, he and Fran moved to the Atlanta area, where he founded the Kilts Financial Group, retiring in 2015.

In his youth, Jim was a rock drummer with several groups, and he continued to play for many years for his own enjoyment. He was a longtime NASCAR fan, and an avid student of New York State history, particularly his family’s involvement as early settlers there and their participation in the Revolutionary War.

Jim is survived by his wife and three children: Marianne Kilts, James C, Kilts, Jr. (Bethany), and Colleen Fasone (Erik), as well as nine grandchildren: Dylan, Kameron, Isabella, Kayla, Brooke, Luke, Ava, Nora, and Brady. Also surviving are his brother, Albert Kilts, as well as several nieces and nephews and two brothers-in-law, Martin and Daniel (Mary).

The funeral service to honor the life of James C. Kilts will be at 10:00 in the morning on Friday, June 2, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Alpharetta followed by a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Thomas Aquinas.
