MASSACHUSETTS — Tuesday may be a hectic weather day in Massachusetts, with surface-level wildfire smoke and thunderstorms in the forecast.
The wildfire smoke from fires burning in Canada will begin to move into far western Massachusetts by Monday afternoon with smoke entering the Worcester area by about 3 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. By noon, the entire state will be seeing some smoke, and it’s expected to linger into the evening hours.
New fires have broken out in recent days in Quebec, adding to smoke produced last week by fires burning in Nova Scotia. There have been close to 400 forest fires in Quebec this year so far, about double the typical yearly average, according to reports.
During the afternoon hours, there’s a chance of some light thunderstorms moving southeast across the state, according to the forecast.
“So while a few storms could produce small hail and gusty wind … severe weather is not expected,” the weather service said in a forecast Monday morning.
Tuesday will also be the warmest day of the week with temperatures in the 70s across the state with some sun. It’ll stay in the mid-60s every other day this week, with chances of showers each day as well.
