A man from Chicopee won $1 million on a lottery scratch ticket he bought in his hometown and claimed on May 19, the Massachusetts State Lottery announced.
Edward Abramowicz went to the New Corner Variety II store, located at 1875 Memorial Drive in Chicopee and bought a “$4,000,000 Diamonds” scratch ticket for $10.
Abramowicz was the first $1 million prize winner in the lottery game, which was released on April 18. There are eight remaining $1 million prizes available to win in the game, and just two out of the four $4 million grand prizes remaining.
After scratching the ticket to reveal his prize, Abramowicz, who told the lottery he enjoys fishing and cooking, claimed his ticket on May 19. He opted to receive the money in the form of a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes.
The New Corner Variety II store in Chicopee will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the $1 million ticket, the lottery said.
