Pittsfield — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will be implementing a full closure of the Holmes Road Bridge in Pittsfield. The closure is scheduled to begin on Friday, June 23 at 5 p.m. and will continue through late August. The closure is needed to allow crews to safely and efficiently conduct bridge replacement operations. The work, which will be conducted using an accelerated schedule, will occur weekly, Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Motorists will be directed to use Pomeroy Avenue, Crofut Street, and Route 7 and Route 20 (South Street) during the bridge closure.
The bridge work will require the closure of Holmes Road from address #650 to #677. While Holmes Road is closed, delays are expected along South Street and motorists are advised to avoid this area during peak travel periods, including on weekday mornings and afternoons and midday on weekends.
Access will be maintained on either side of the bridge for businesses and local residents. Appropriate signage and messaging will be in place. Those traveling through the area should expect delays, reduce speed and use caution.
