Judith A. Sternad (Nee Feltz) passed away on Friday July 7, 2023 at home in Gowanda surrounded by her loving family . Judy was 82 years old.
Born in North Collins , NY May 20, 1941 the only daughter to Wilford and Julia (Ramacci) Feltz . Judy grew up enjoying the country life surrounded by friends and family; which included her older brother Robert and younger brother Bill. She graduated from North Collins High School and was active with school activities throughout her high school years . She received the Babe Ruth Award for outstanding senior athlete .
Judy married the love of her life Ludwig T. Sternad at the Holy Spirit RC Church in North Collins on May 4, 1962 together they have 2 children ,
Cathaline ( Jeffrey) Miller of Springville and Daren A. Sternad of Gowanda.
Lud and Judy were active members of St. Joseph’s RC Church when their health permitted them to attend weekly mass’ , were involved with Church bizarres and lawn fetes. . Judy was a talented artist; whether it was a greeting card , a landscape painting or sewing clothes for her children she could do it all and was good at it. Her cards would be given to friends and family throughout the years and kept by the ones that received them knowing each card was made from love by her .
In 1975 Judy was the first person hired by Suburban Adult Services INC. ( a shelter workshop for people with developmental disabilities) Her job took her to different workshops throughout Western NY where she was instrumental in scheduling activities, transportation, evaluating ,writing reports and more. It was here she found her new passion ;allowing her creativity , energy , empathy, humor and kindness to shine .The company is more familiarly known today as SASI. Judy worked until 1990 when her health started to decline . Judy was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1986 but continued to work as long as she could. She found solace among the people she cared for so deeply . After retiring from SASI Judy continued to pursue her passion for crafting ; she designed purses and greeting cards with her own floral paintings and designs . She even created a group of colorful characters which she used to express greetings of happiness and love in her paintings . She loved to bake and host company but most of all she loved her family. Surviving besides her husband Ludwig of 63 years , her children Cathy and Daren are her 2 grandsons Patrick Sternad and Benjamin Miller along with brother Bill ( Carol) Feltz and several nieces , nephews and friends.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Robert(Judy) Feltz.
Friends may call at the St. Joseph’s RC Church East Main St. Gowanda on Wednesday July 12,2023 from 9:30-11:00 am . A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 11:00 am with interment to follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery Gowanda .
Arrangements are by the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME 44 Center St. Gowanda.
In lieu of flowers the family wishes memorial donations to Hospice of Buffalo 225 Como Park Blvd . Cheektowaga , NY 14227; an organization that provided such loving care and support to the family during Judy’s illness.
