Severe Thunderstorm Watch In Effect In Parts Of MA

MASSACHUSETTS — The National Weather Service has placed almost all of Massachusetts under a severe thunderstorm watch with potentially dangerous weather headed for the region this afternoon.

The thunderstorm watch — which means residents should be prepared for dangerous weather — covers all of Worcester, Essex, Middlesex and Suffolk counties. The western half of the state is also under the watch.

Hail, winds up to 65 mph, lightning and heavy rain are all possible Friday. In a forecast Friday morning, the NWS office in Norton said there’s also “a very low chance for a quick tornadic spin up.”

“[S]howers and thunderstorms will move into interior southern New England by late afternoon/early evening and a few of these storms may become strong to severe. This activity should survive onto the I-95 corridor this evening although in a weakened fashion,” the forecast said.

The severe thunderstorm watch will be in effect in Massachusetts until 8 p.m.
