The Florence Pie Bar, opened in 2015, is going to be under new ownership.
Started and owned by Maura Glennon, a former music professor at Keene State College in New Hampshire for 15 years, the Pie Bar will be transferring under ownership of Familiars Coffee and Tea owners Danny McColgan and Isaac Weiner.
“We’re so happy to have found the right people to care for our great staff, our sweet little space, and you — our incredible customers,” says a post on the Pie Bar’s Facebook page on Monday.
A post on Familiars’ Facebook page said that there will be no immediate changes at either Familiars, which is located at 6 Strong Avenue in downtown Northampton, or at the Pie Bar, at the corner of Chestnut and Main streets in Florence.
“However, in the not too distant future, expect some delicious Pie Bar goods over in the case at Familiars, and a full coffee and espresso program at Pie Bar featuring @counterculturecoffee,” the post said. “Beyond that, we’ll just have to see what the future holds!”
Neither business immediately responded to requests for more information.
“I was very excited when this opportunity presented itself because Danny and Isaac have a clear understanding of the Florence Pie Bar brand within our community and beyond,” Glennon told 22News. “I was interested in finding the best people to guide Florence Pie Bar’s continued growth, and it feels like a perfect fit for this special place that we built. Additionally, I feel very good about their interest in keeping our current staff and not making any significant changes right now.”
Weiner told 22News that the owners plan to “take things very slowly to see what works best in Florence.”
In 2022, Florence Pie Bar was named one of New England’s top pie shops by Yankee Magazine, which said it was “the perfect place to come in out of the cold, sidle up to the bar, and stay awhile.”
