WILLIAMSBURG — A section of Route 9 straddling the Northampton-Williamsburg town line was shut down late Tuesday afternoon after a serious two-vehicle collision with injuries.

The area of road, located in Haydenville between Bread Euphoria Bakery and the Beaver Brook Golf Course, was blocked off by police at around 3 p.m. Traffic was rerouted near High Street in Haydenville. The area of road remained closed off for hours after the crash, which resulted in heavy front-end damage to both vehicles and leaving one on its side.

Lindsey Trombley, a resident who lives nearby the area where the crash occurred, told a reporter at the scene that she heard a loud crash and went out to investigate. She said it isn’t uncommon to see such motor vehicle collisions along that stretch of road.

“I’ve lived here since 1991, and there’ve been so many accidents,” she said. “The road becomes straight here, so maybe people think it’s okay to speed or look at their phones.”

Police and firefighters from Northampton and Williamsburg were on the scene, and other emergency workers. Massachusetts State Police also responded to the scene. Police did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
