James H. Byrnes, age 95, of Holyoke, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023 at Heritage Hall West in Agawam. He was born in Holyoke, son of the late James E. and Theresa (Parks) Byrnes and was educated in the Holyoke Schools. Jim was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. He was a longtime plumber, running his own plumbing and heating business for many years, and also served as the Plumbing Inspector for the City of Holyoke. He was a longtime communicant of the former Sacred Heart Parish. Jim was the widower of Gertrude R. (McCarthy) Byrnes, who died on January 31, 2021. He is survived by three sons: James and his wife Patricia of Westfield, Thomas and his wife Debra of Cape Coral, Fl. and William and his wife Ann of Chicopee; two daughters, Catherine Courchesne and her husband Paul of Chicopee and Ann Moriarty and her husband Paul of North Adams. Grandchildren Pauline, Joseph, Kerry, Sean, Robert, Matthew, Patrick and Emily. Great grandchildren Tyler, Hayden, Liam, Olivia, Jack, Bianca and Callie. and a son-in-law, Michael Sopet of South Hadley. Besides his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by a daughter Barbara Sopet and Granddaughter Christine Byrnes. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke. Burial will follow in Saint Jerome Cemetery. A calling hour will be held Thursday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: Shriners Children’s Hospital, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
