Hilton Mark Abbott, passed away peacefully in Longmeadow, Massachusetts on November 2nd, 2023, with his wife of 57 years, Linda Yager Abbott, by his side. He was 83 years old. In addition to Linda, he is survived by his sister, Martha Sanborn; his nephews Scott and Todd; three children, Mary-Alice Abbott and husband Christopher Ollari, Mark Abbott and wife Rebecca Bloch, and Joya Abbott; and six grandchildren: Samuel and Mia, Eva and Noah, and Emmett and Wilder.
Born in Barre, Vermont on March 30th, 1940, to Mark and Peg Abbott, Hilt graduated from the University of Vermont and later earned a Master’s in Physics from Eastern Michigan University and Doctorate in Education from the University of Massachusetts. He had a long career as an educator, first in Vermont, then in Ann Arbor, Michigan, before settling in Springfield, Massachusetts, where he taught Physics at Springfield Technical Community College for thirty years.
In his retirement, he was a founding member and volunteer for the Longmeadow robotics teams.
As an educator, an artist, a mentor, and a friend, Hilt touched many lives and will be missed.
A memorial will take place later this month.
