Susan A. Adamczyk
1949 – 2023
AGAWAM
Susan Ann (Durant) Adamczyk, 74, of Agawam, MA passed away surrounded by her adoring family on Saturday, November 18, 2023, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Our beloved wife, mother, aunt, and Grandma was the heart of our family.
Susan was born on April 13, 1949, to the late Hannah (Prendiville) and Joseph Durant in Springfield, MA. She was a lifelong resident of Agawam and a 1967 graduate of Agawam High School.
Susan attended the Hartford School of Nursing and spent her life devoted to caring for others as a pediatric nurse at Baystate Medical Center and as an in-home caregiver to children with life altering disabilities. Her compassion for her patients was only outdone by her deep and selfless love for her family.
A dedicated communicant of Sacred Heart Church, her unwavering faith and lifelong motto of “everything happens for a reason” helped her navigate the ups and downs of life. A woman who enjoyed the simple pleasures, she delighted in trips to the beach, floating in the pool, fall turkey shoots, decorating for every holiday, Sunday dinners, and most importantly spending time with her friends, family, and five grandchildren who all adored their Grandma.
Susan is survived by her loving husband of fifty-one years, Edward J. Adamczyk, her two children, Brett Adamczyk (Caitlin) of Westwood, MA, Courtney Lombardi (Eric) of West Springfield, MA, her five grandchildren, Owen, Emma, Griffin, Liam, and Declan, her brother Richard Durant (Priscilla) of Wakefield, RI, and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and dear friends. Susan was pre-deceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Jack Albano, with Jean being a mother figure to her throughout her life and instilled the importance of family.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Lindsey West and the nursing teams at Baystate Medical Center for their tremendous care as well as the staff at The Sosin Center for Rehab. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Susan’s name to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org
