The family of Marlene L. Serra announces her passing surrounded by her angels from New England Hospice on December 26, 2023.
She was the youngest and last surviving of 13 children, born on May 29, 1932, to Lazare Duval and Regina (Gelinas) Duval.
Marlene married Ernest A. Serra who predeceased her in 2012. Together they welcomed 2 children and were married 59 years.
Marlene worked at Packaging Service in Agawam for many years. Marlene was always ready to go to dinner, shopping, or on vacation. Her most important achievement was being a mother and a grandmother. She loved her family.
Surviving Marlene are her children, daughter Charlotte A. Grondin and her husband Marcel of Feeding Hills and her son Ernest R. Serra and his wife Patti of Feeding Hills. Marlene was the grandmother of 2 grandchildren, Sabrina Serra and Alissa Serra. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. Marlene will be missed by her extended family the Cupillo’s and Grondin’s as well.
A special thanks to her close neighbors who watched out for her and to the many Meals On Wheels and Springfield Senior Services Home Care Personnel while she was living in her home.
Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024, from 5-7 PM at the Colonial-Forastiere Funeral Home, 985 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024, beginning at 9:30 AM at the funeral home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial to be Celebrated at 11 AM at Sacred Heart Parish, 1065 Springfield St., with Fr. Charles Grondin and Deacon Normand Grondin Presiding. Rites of Committal and burial will follow in Springfield Street Cemetery, both in Feeding Hills.
