Tommie Johnson, born Tommie Sue Johnson on the 2nd of September, 1942, in Russellville, Alabama, has lived a life as warm and comforting as the crochet blankets she loved to create. Her story is woven with the threads of dedication, love, and resilience. A lover of puppies, an avid follower of the Alabama Crimson Tide, and a doting family matriarch, Tommie passed away on the 29th of January, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and care that will be cherished forever. As Louisa May Alcott once said, “She is too fond of books, and it has turned her brain,” we could easily say the same about Tommie and her love for her family, her work, and her hobbies.
Tommie, fondly remembered for her nurturing spirit, moved to Agawam, Massachusetts, 15 years ago. However, her heart remained in Alabama, where she spent her formative years and developed her enduring love for college football. She also resided in Tuscaloosa, AL, and Vandergrift, PA. Tommie retired in 2000 from her career as a Certified Nurses Aide, a role she undertook with a profound sense of compassion and commitment. Her life’s work was a testament to her belief in the power of kindness and care. In the words of Mother Teresa, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” These words epitomize the way Tommie approached her life, her work, and her relationships.
Tommie is survived by her son, James Johnson. Her love for her family, including all her grand and great-grandchildren, was the cornerstone of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Louise Frost, her sons Troy and Georgie Johnson, her sisters Jimmie Freeman and Ann M, and her grandson, Jared Johnson. The love she had for each of them was immeasurable and her memory will continue to be a source of strength and comfort for all who knew her.
