Happy Birthday, West Springfield! Free events and fireworks kick off at 6 p.m.

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWL) – Friday marks West Springfield’s 250th birthday!

The Town was founded on this day back in 1774. Friday night leaders are throwing the Town a birthday party. It’ll be held at Clark Field from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

There will be free treats and activities like hot chocolate, face painting, and more. Plus live music from local groups, food trucks, fireworks, and some special 250th-anniversary merchandise.

The fireworks begin at 8 p.m. Parking at Clark Field is restricted for handicapped access only. The Town has more than a dozen designated parking areas around the high school, middle school, and Fausey Drive.

Entertainment includes performances by the high school band led by Nathan Holesovsky. The Chorus will also perform. Theater of Malum, a local hard rock/heavy metal band, will hit the stage to play some of the classics.

Free face painting by The Happy Face Painter however, they recommend getting there early due to anticipating a long line. Thousands of blue and white glowsticks donated by Cyalume will be provided to those attending to help light up the field.

White Hut’s food truck will be serving hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, onion rings, chicken tenders, chili, soda, and water for purchase. The Crest Room is serving its Smokehouse BBQ, burgers, dinners, specialty cocktails, and more. A concession stand will be providing free hot chocolate served by the West Springfield Park Recreation Department.

Fireworks by Grucci, the same company that created Springfield’s Fourth of July display, will start at 8 p.m. for a 20-minute display. They hold the Guinness World Record for the “Largest Fireworks Display” ever recorded and “Largest Pyrotechnic Image”!
