Pedestrian trapped under car on State Street in Springfield rescued


SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A man operating a scooter was rescued after crashing into a car and becoming trapped underneath in Springfield Monday afternoon.

According to Springfield Police Spokesperson Ryan Walsh, at around 12:40 p.m. officers were called to the intersection of State and Spring streets for a report of a crash involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, the man who was driving the electric scoot was lodged under the car.

With the help from a passerby, a box truck driver, used the lift gate to free the pedestrian from under the car. The officers began first aid and he was taken to Baystate Medical Center with serious injuries.

A portion of State Street was closed while police investigated but has since reopened.
