Former Boston Celtics star Rajon Rondo has announced he is retired from the NBA after playing 16 seasons in the league.Rondo, who had last appeared in an NBA game in January 2022, said he is “done” during an appearance on the “All the Smoke” podcast, which was released Monday.”I’d rather spend time with my kids,” he said.Rondo, 38, played the first eight-plus seasons of his NBA career with the Boston Celtics, who drafted him 21st overall in 2006 out of the University of Kentucky.In his second NBA season, Rondo was the starting point guard on the 2007-08 Celtics championship team that featured three Basketball Hall of Famers: Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.Rondo was an NBA All-Star for four straight seasons with Boston (2010-13) and averaged 11.0 points, 8.5 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.9 steals in 527 regular-season games with the Celtics.He still ranks fourth in Celtics history with 4,474 assists, third with 990 steals and fourth with 22 triple doubles.In December 2014, the Celtics traded Rondo to the Dallas Mavericks and he would go on to play with seven more teams during the rest of his NBA career.Rondo won another NBA title with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.
