National Alliance on Mental Illness of western Massachusetts holds 13th annual art and poetry show in Chicopee

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Mental health was the subject of a powerful display of artwork in Chicopee Wednesday night.

This evening, the National Alliance on Mental Illness of western Massachusetts (NAMI) held its 13th annual art and poetry show, which provided audience members with deeper understanding of the struggles and triumphs of those with mental health conditions.

There were 100 pieces of art on display, a reminder that art has the power to heal and bring people together. “It boosts how they feel about themselves and just their mental wellness and they just enjoy it so much,” said NAMI Executive Director, Cathy Rogers. “It also helps them to communicate their thoughts and ideas.”

The exhibit runs through the entire month of April. Some of the artwork has been put up for sale, with all proceeds going to the artists.
