PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The National Weather Service received several reports of the earthquake being felt in southern New England and plenty of people in Berkshire County felt it too.
What You Need To Know
- New Jersey had a magnitude 4.8 earthquake
- Tremors could be felt across Berkshire County
- Some people didn’t realize what it was until news broke
“Just sitting here, I felt the chair tremble [and] I noticed that the plexiglass here was shaking,” said Joe Robinson from Berkshire County. “And I looked over at my coworkers and I asked if they felt the same thing. And they said, ‘Yep.’ And low and behold it was a tremor from an earthquake.”
Robinson was shocked his morning started out with a shake at Rocco’s North End Barbershop. He says he had never felt something like this before.
“You know, you feel little microbursts from an earthquake but nothing like what I just felt,” Robinson said.
The owner of Rocco’s didn’t realize what he was feeling and thought it might’ve been the washing machine.
“So, I was just sitting here and all of a sudden Joe and Z were both like, ‘You feel that?’ And I was just like, ‘Nah, it’s just the washing machine.’ But up here something was rattling you and then I was like, ‘Ah no, it’s just the washing machine, you guys are crazy,” said Tony Riello.
While Joanne Warren was getting her hair done at a nearby salon, she thought her roller ball might have been sitting too close to her chair as it started shaking.
“Yeah, all the way down from New Jersey to here, I’m thinking, my god can you imagine the ones that are 8 and 9 and 10 because my chair was shaking, so, it was crazy to have one in Berkshire County I guess,” said Warren.
Thankfully, no injuries or significant damage has been reported in the area due to the quake.
