Dozens gather at Springfield Museums to view solar eclipse

(WGGB/WSHM) — The much-anticipated Great American Eclipse made its mark over western Massachusetts on Monday and visitors to the Springfield Museums were able to visit a pre-eclipse experience at the planetarium. Some were even lucky enough to grab those special eclipse glasses. Springfield Museums gave out approximately 250 pairs.

“Everything…You have to put the glasses on your eyes,” said one girl in attendance.

A couple of other eager eclipse watchers took it to the next level. They brought a telescope to make sure they don’t miss a moment.

“We’re just lucky to be at the right place at the right time for this eclipse. It’s such a rare once in a lifetime event,” said Peter Zaban of Springfield. “There’s like a pair of sunglasses almost on the front of the telescope that dims down the sun. You get to look at the eyepiece here and you can see the disk of the sun.”
