Vincent Patella Obituary (1956 – 2024) – Pittsfield, MA – The Berkshire Eagle

Vincent Anthony Patella, Jr., 67 of Pittsfield, passed away May 11, 2024 at Berkshire Medical Center with his children by his side. Born at St. Luke’s Hospital in Pittsfield on December 1st, 1956, he is the son of Vincent Anthony Patella, Sr., and Sara Morgan Patella.

He is a 1974 graduate of Taconic High School and a communicant of St. Anne’s Church.

Mr. Patella, always a protector, served as a Sergeant in the Marine Corps. He performed special duty in the HMX1 Helicopter Security Squadron under President Carter, who awarded Vincent with the Presidential Service Certificate for Honorable Service in the White House. He also worked as a Corrections Officer at the Berkshire County House of Corrections, and in security at the Boys & Girls Club of the Berkshires and the Berkshire County Museum. Most recently, Mr. Patella loyally served as a Court Officer for the Berkshire County Superior Court in Pittsfield from April 6, 1993 until his date of retirement on August 30, 2016.

Vincent was a true comedian whose “Vinny-isms” will live on with everyone who knew him. He had a profound love for music with a booming voice to match, and never missed an opportunity to sing along to Frank Sinatra or “the Boss.” He was masterful in the kitchen and incorporated his pride for his Italian heritage into every meal he prepared. His faith became more important to him with each year that passed, and he prayed earnestly and daily for those that he loved. Most importantly to Vincent, his proudest accomplishment was raising his two children, and he always made sure they knew how special they were to him.

He is survived by his daughter, Samantha “Sami” Patella, a physician in Santa Monica, CA, and son, Vincent “Sonny” Patella of Lenox, who is now raising Mr. Patella’s first granddaughter, Xylia Patella. He also leaves his mother, Sara Patella of Pittsfield, his two sisters, Susan Patella and Kathleen Patella of Pittsfield, and niece Jamila Benkhoud. He leaves many other friends and family members, each of whom he cherished deeply. He was predeceased by his father, Vincent A. Patella, Sr.

If you have any stories, memories, or “Vinny-isms” to share, no matter how big or how small, please send them to Vincent’s daughter Samantha Patella at [email protected].
