Neighborhood reacts to Braintree stabbing spree suspect having residence in Agawam

AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – A suspect in this past weekend’s stabbing spree in Braintree has ties to the town of Agawam.

22News spoke to residents of the neighborhood who said they’re shocked at how close to home this is.

“I walk this neighborhood almost every night… and you just don’t know who is in your neighborhood or who could be living so close by with just not good intentions,” said Sarah Lamb.

Agawam residents say they’re rattled after learning that one of their neighbors is a suspect of a stabbing spree in Massachusetts and Connecticut. That suspect has been identified as 26-year-old Jared Ravizza. Court documents show Ravizza has home addresses in Chilmark, West Tisbury, and Lakeview Circle in Agawam.

Residents on this street did not want to speak on camera, but they did tell 22News as far as they know, Ravizza’s family still lives here. And interactions that they’ve had with him in the past have been uncomfortable.

Ravizza was arrested in Sandwich over the weekend after allegedly stabbing several young girls at a Braintree movie theater and then stabbing two employees at a McDonald’s in Plymouth. He led police on a car chase before being arrested.

Ravizza has also been connected to a homicide in Deep River, Connecticut the victim, 70-year-old Bruce Feldman of West Hartford.

“We love taking our two little boys to the movies so when we heard about what happened in Braintree, we were appalled so it’s crazy that it’s so close to home,” Lamb continued.

Ravizza has been arraigned in Massachusetts with the judge ordering a mental health evaluation. Charges for Ravizza in connection to the homicide in Connecticut are still pending. It is unclear at this time if Ravizza had a criminal history in our area.

22News has reached out to the Hampden County Clerk’s office for court documents and we will have their response once it becomes available.
