SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Girls on the Run Western MA will be hosting a celebration 5K event at Western New England University on Saturday.
Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based, positive youth development program that uses fun running games and dynamic discussions to teach life skills to girls in the 3rd to 8th grades. Over 3,000 people are expected to participate in the run.
This celebration 5K is the culmination of a 10-week, 20-lesson social-emotional program where girls participated in lessons that fostered confidence, built peer connections, and encouraged community service, and will bring together all participants, coaches, running buddies, and families.
Participation is open to the public and all of the proceeds from the event will benefit Girls on the Run Western MA. The run starts at 10:30 a.m., with the group warm-up beginning at 10 am. Participants may arrive for fun events at 9 am. Registration costs $25 for adults and $10 for youth under 12 and includes an event 5K shirt for the first 700 registered.
