Dennis Richard Schafer, 49, of Silver Lane, Easthampton, MA died Monday, (October 21, 2002) in his home. He was born in Brighton, April 28, 1953, the son of George Schafer and the late Theresa (Mahoney) Schafer. He received his Masters degree from Boston University in Software Engineering. He was employed as manager in Software with Emhart Glass of Windsor. He was previously employed by Otis Elevator Co. He holds two patents for Elevator Car Position Sensing Systems. He had been a resident of Easthampton since 1982. He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church of Holyoke. He is survived by his father of Cape Cod; his wife, Deborah Ann (Charvat) Schafer; a son, Evan C. Schafer; two daughters, Leanna May Schafer and Lynsey Theresa Schafer, both at home; three sisters, Linda Raia and Sheila Carrier, both of Connecticut and Laura Schafer of Pennsylvania. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday morning, 10 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Church, Rt. 5, 1945 Northampton Street, Holyoke, followed by burial in East Street Cemetery, Janes Lane, Easthampton. There will be no calling hours at the Mitchell Funeral Home, Easthampton. Flowers are asked to be omitted.
