WARE, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – Emergency crews responded to a major accident involving two vehicles leaving one dead and others injured at around 5:45 p.m. on Sunday, the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office has confirmed.
When we arrived on-scene, we witnessed what appeared to be a car destroyed and rolled over onto the grass, and a truck severely damaged. A heavy police presence was active both investigating and rerouting traffic.
One person was killed while three other people were taken to the hospital. Two were transported to Baystate Medical Center and the third was taken by med flight to a hospital in Worcester. Their condition is unknown at this time.
A section of Belchertown Road was closed for several hours but has since been reopened.
The Ware Police Department, with assistance from Northwestern District Attorney detectives, the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services, as well as the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Response Section, responded to the incident.
At this time, it’s believed that one vehicle was traveling west, and the other east, when one turned in front of the other. However, the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
