WATCH: Ludlow teen becomes a hero, leaps from jetski to save runaway boat

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – A Ludlow teen saved the day on Lake Winnipesaukee on Wednesday while on vacation in New Hampshire.

Western Mass News spoke with Brady Procon about what happened on the lake, and why he decided to jump from a jet ski, onto a runaway boat.

17-year-old Ludlow resident Brady Procon was spending the Fourth of July week with his family at Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire when the unexpected happened, and a man was thrown off his boat, leaving behind a runaway vessel.

As seen in a video shared with Western Mass News, Procon jumped into the water, along with his dad and neighbors to try and get ahold of the circling boat.

Procon told us they all acted quickly.

“So, I dove off my jet ski, hopped on his jet ski, and then he maneuvered his jet ski up to the boat so I could jump in it.”

With a lake full of families, and kids, he knew the runaway boat could have been a disaster.

“If it hit that dock, it would have ricocheted off and probably hit somebody’s house, dock, or people,” he explained.

Procon told us that everyone at the lake embraced him as a hero, but he sees it differently.

“They were calling me a hero, and all that, but I wouldn’t say I’m a hero, I think anyone would have done that if they had that opportunity to do it.”

Now Procon looks ahead to his next personal call to duty, joining the navy in the fall.

“To be in any military branch you have to have bravery I guess, I wouldn’t even count what I did as brave, but some sort of don’t think, just do.”

Thankfully, no one was injured and there were no damages to any boats or docks.
