Lawrence Daniel Cohen


Dr. Lawrence “Larry” Cohen, born 7/13/37 and passed on 7/08/24, formally of Longmeadow MA. was the greatest father, brother, Poppy, and son. He was the son of Syd Cohen and Ben Cohen of the Bronx, NY. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marlene Cohen, his Brother Alan Cohen, his Son Bradford Cohen, his Daughter Tracie Cohen Young and his 4 grandchildren, Jordan Young, Spencer Young, Troy Young and Jackson Cohen. He loved his family, and his family loved him more than anything.

After enlisting and serving as a Captain in the Air Force in 1962, he was eventually stationed at Westover Airforce Base in Chicopee, Mass. He moved his family to Longmeadow Massachusetts in 1966 and established a dental practice in Chicopee Mass. He was known as one of the most talented and caring Dentists in Western Massachusetts. His patients called him “Dr. Painless”. He would often donate his time to work on difficult cases for underprivileged patients, patients with health issues and students at Job Corp. He was a student of life and enjoyed every minute he had with his family and friends. He loved learning and was a voracious reader of books on history, politics and art. He was friends with bartenders to Presidents and everyone in between. He was an accomplished master scuba diver when he was younger and would explore the ocean with his friends which included ex-Navy Seals and other experienced divers.

He moved with his wife Marlene to Fort Lauderdale in 2002, to be closer to his son and daughter and his grandchildren.

Originally from the Bronx, he loved his Yankees and Knicks. He spent his days in Florida enjoying Panther games, becoming a local at many restaurants, watching his grandsons’ sporting events, testifying as an expert witness in several high-profile cases and participating in political campaign events. Everyone he met remembers him for his bigger than life personality, his infectious smile, his sense of humor, his wit and his generosity. When people use the term good guy, they are referring to Larry Cohen.

He was his son’s best friend, mentor and advisor. There aren’t enough pages in a newspaper to describe how he will be missed and how much his family loved him.
