Bedford boys basketball coach Ryan Kilian passes away – Lowell Sun
For the second time in a week, the Bedford athletic community suffered a huge blow.
Bedford High boys basketball coach Ryan Kilian suffered a fatal heart attack Monday evening and passed away at the age 42. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
Kilian took over as boys basketball coach in 2019, but his biggest passion was the creation of the Mass Preps Stars website a few years earlier. In his own words, it was a service designed in large part to help families and student/athletes go through the recruiting process.
Once word got out, the tributes poured out on twitter. A touching one came from Bedford Youth Lacrosse.
“Bedford Youth Lacrosse Board of Directors and family members are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Coach Ryan Kilian. We lost a Coach, Board Member, Mentor, Teacher, and an enormous presence in the Bedford community. We express our condolences to his family.”
Yet another came from the BC High lacrosse twitter feed: “RIP Ryan Kilian! He has done so much for HS MASS sports. Thoughts and prayers to his family. The lacrosse community will miss him dearly!”
Funeral arrangements are pending.
Four days earlier, former Bedford football and baseball coach Armand Sabourin passed away at the age of 83. He spent 32 years as the head football coach and the field was named for him in 2013.
