CHICOPEE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – The Chicopee School Committee met Wednesday night to discuss COVID-19 testing and vaccination efforts within the district.

Superintendent Lynn Clark provided an update on student vaccinations Wednesday.

22 percent of elementary students have been vaccinated against COVID-19 and 30 percent of all middle school students, as well.

As for their three high schools, Superintendent Clark said that that ranges between 16-to-44 percent.

The rapid spread of the omicron variant and surge in local cases has made contact tracing more difficult.

“Please understand that the widespread illness right now, and due to community exposure and the spread of COVID-19 illness, is moving faster than actual in school,” said Clark. “Contact tracing can be adequately completed.”

Superintendent Clark said that vaccinations for staff are not required.
