Crews from multiple fire departments are working to put out a three-alarm fire in Longmeadow Tuesday morning.

LONGMEADOW, MA (WGGB/WSHM) — A four-alarm fire tore through a Longmeadow shopping plaza early Tuesday morning. Crews were on scene for hours working to put out the fire that we now know destroyed six business.

The Longmeadow Fire Department received mutual aid from 13 surrounding communities to help put out this massive fire.

Crews were called to Armata’s Plaza on Shaker Road around 6:15 a.m. Tuesday. When our crew arrived on-scene, flames and smoke were seen pouring from all directions of the building, which made it difficult for fire officials to keep the fire under control.

In a video sent to our newsroom, you could see heavy flames coming from the strip mall which is located on Shaker Road at the corner of Maple Road.

Although the cause has not been officially determined, the fire is believed to have originated in The Bottle Shop, which is one of the six businesses in the plaza that is now a total loss.

One of the shop’s owners said he got a call from his brother just after six this morning when the fire started.

“…And we got here and I talked to the firemen and they said we thought we contained it in the middle, but the wind took it right down to Armata’s,” said Rob Thomas.

The Longmeadow town manager is expected to meet with business owners today to discuss their next steps.

Western Mass News will continue to follow this story and will have more information as it becomes available.
