Men’s rowing races three schools in western Massachusetts


PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Hamilton College finished fourth in the varsity eight and the second varsity eight in a regatta with Tufts University, Williams College and Massachusetts Institute of Technology that was held on Onota Lake on Saturday, April 27.
 
Hamilton is ranked 11th in the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association/Intercollegiate Rowing Association Men’s Division III Varsity 8+ Top 15 poll. Tufts is ranked third while Williams is fourth. MIT is ranked eighth in the men’s lightweight first varsity eight poll.
 
The Continentals recorded a time of 6:26.39 in the varsity eight on the 2,000-meter course. Racing conditions included a slight cross-tailwind on an otherwise beautiful day for racing. MIT was the winner in 5:59.05, edging Tufts (6:01.09) and Williams (6:02.64).
 
In the Men’s Division III Second Varsity 8+ Top 10 poll, Williams is No. 1, Tufts is No. 2 and Hamilton is receiving votes. MIT is 10th in the men’s lightweight second varsity eight poll.
 
The Continentals finished the second varsity eight race in 6:58.94. This time Williams bested Tufts by 4.21 seconds with a time of 6:04.02. MIT ended up in third place in 6:25.37.
 
Hamilton is back in the water on Sunday, May 12 for the National Invitational Rowing Championships, which doubles as the NESCAC Championships, at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.
